Q1 2025: Mirus Matters

April 02, 2025

Following the end of each quarter, I plan to provide a quick update about recent Mirus projects, experiences, and opportunities. We hope you find our activities informative, helpful, and reassuring.

Mirus Planning Quarterly Webinars | Each quarter, we host a subject matter expert who shares valuable insights with our clients. On February 25th, we invited Jared Adams, an estate planning attorney from Condie Adams, to share his thoughts about the complexities of estate planning and essential issues to consider. Jared does an exceptional job explaining complicated matters in an easy-to-understand way. In case you missed it, we have a link provided here for that webinar:

Retirement Abundance Seminars | After a hiatus of “in-person” events due to COVID concerns, we re-introduced live workshops at the Heathman Hotel in downtown Kirkland in September. In February, we held two more workshops geared around education about ways to succeed when retiring, how to design predictable Retirement Income strategies, plan for longevity, and avoid the many blind spots of this big (and for most, new) decision. Our workshops are open to existing clients, friends, family, and select families from the surrounding Kirkland community. Our next set of workshops will be on May 7th and May 13th.

What Are We Learning? | Kyle and I were fortunate to be invited to “Behind the Curtain: Unpacking the Impact of Undue Influence on Older Adults,” sponsored by Aging Wisdom, at the Rainier Club in Seattle on March 27th, 2025.

The moderator for the event was our colleague, Lisa Mayfield, MA, LMHC, GMHS, CMC, Founder and Principal, Aging Wisdom.

The expert panel for this program included:
Alison J. Warden Stokes Lawrence, P.S.
Kristoffer Rhoads Ph.D., neuropsychologist at Harborview and UW Professor of Neurology
Nicole Amico Kane MSW, LICSW, CMC, the Director of Care Management for Aging Wisdom

Attending events like this enables us to learn and grow as an organization and stay current and competent regarding matters that could affect those we serve. Aging issues are a big part of our journey, and we need to understand how and when vulnerabilities can arise from cognitive decline and influenced by others.

We found this workshop illuminating through the eyes of other professionals (the primary audience included elder law attorneys, professional fiduciaries, and caregivers) who navigate cognitive impairment and offer care for those needing support. Besides learning about what to pay attention to when working with aging clients, it was also a good opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals who can offer support when and if needed for Mirus clients (Mirus Resources).

What Are We Reading? | We are reading a new book released on February 4th, 2025, by Sahil Bloom, The 5 Types of Wealth. I’d highly recommend this book as the ideas shared are easy to apply, useful to ponder, and help illuminate something we believe here at Mirus: wealth is not limited to merely dollars and cents. Instead, Sahill makes the compelling case that wealth involves many important matters, including our time, social circle, mental faculties, physical well-being, and financial situation.

Our Behavior Matters | Our first quarter involved many productive client reviews, the gathering and timely furnishing of tax documents for clients and their professionals (thank you, Maily Wirks), various discussions around tariffs, heightened political and geopolitical uncertainty, and thoughtful ways to respond when necessary. We have enjoyed many interactions during the first three months of the year — THANK YOU!

In addition, thank you for the various introductions to nice people who need help with complex and emotional transitions. We very much appreciate your belief that we can make a difference for people you know who may need help.

Finally, we feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to serve friendly people while being a trusted guide for your unique journey. Please reach out if you need anything from us. Otherwise, enjoy the beginning of Spring, and we will connect soon!
